The South Atlantic Telecommunications Cable No.3 (SAT-3) runs from Sesimbra, Portugal
to Melkbosstrand (Cape Town), South Africa.  The 14,341 [km] (8,911 [mi]) long undersea cable
provides 120 [GB/sec], enough bandwidth to carry 5.8 million simultaneous phone calls.

SAT-3 uses only 2 pairs of fiber-optic cables, which pass through 191 submerged repeaters
every 80 [km] (50 [mi]) along the way. SAT-3 cost approximately $650 million to install.

SAT-3 connects to the South Africa-Far East cable (SAFE) in South Africa, which covers
an additional 13,104 [km] (8,142 [mi]), from Melkbosstrand to Cochin, India & Panang, Malaysia.
