Veterans
Stadium
Home of the Philadelphia EAGLES from August 16, 1971
through January 19, 2003.

The Philadelphia
Phillies are planning to auction off bits and pieces of Veterans Stadium after
the baseball season, including lockers, signs, dugout benches and swatches of
artificial turf.
The Phillies
are financially responsible for demolishing the Vet and hope to recoup some
of the costs
through the sale of stadium memorabilia - such as seats at $280 a pair. The
32-year-old concrete bowl
is scheduled to come down early next year as the Phillies and Eagles move into
new stadiums nearby.
The team
recently sent letters to season ticket-holders offering them first dibs on the
stadium's seats, and several
thousand fans already plunked down the money. The seats will be offered to the
general public beginning next month.
Although
Veterans Stadium has about 60,000 seats, only 20,000 pairs will be available
for sale.
That's because the seats share armrests, so for every two seats removed, one
seat is lost.
Apart from
the seat sale, the Phillies plan to hold an auction of other stadium memorabilia
sometime in late November or early December - just in time for the holiday buying
season.
